A green start with a sustainable future.
Our Future
Kushions aims to help build the infrastructure of hemp manufacturing in the United States. Hemp has been used across the world for thousands of years for various reasons. In America hemp was pushed aside due to cannabis laws, propaganda, and corruption from most major industries at the time (Oil, Lumber, Textile, and the Government). The result is a country that produces lower quality materials for an overpriced item. We want to change that.
Hemp fabric, at the time being, is not exactly cheap to produce in America. Many of the hemp products in the U.S. are currently shipped from over seas, which as a "Green" company aiming for sustainability is a red flag. Many companies have to face the dilemma of sustainability vs higher domestic pricing.
Kushions also wants to break the trend of apparel companies selling cotton hoodies for ridiculous profit margins when it typically costs less than $30 to produce. Wholesale/manufacturer costs or not, we don't think it's right. We want to close the gap. A company needs to profit for offering a good service, but should be offering fair pricing rather than making customers pay for a far less than premium product. A rising issue across multiple markets in America, and apparel companies are right in the center of it. Thoughtless companies only aiming to make a profit. Kushions is about growing as a people, and understanding there is a better way that can truly benefit everyone. This is why Kushions will never have margins over 100% on products (Avg. 50%-60%). We aim to offer fair pricing to all.
Post-Launch Kushions aims to start partnerships with various hemp producing farms, and textile manufacturers in the USA, to create our garments. We would even like to go so far as to try and work with State Governments and the Cannabis Regulatory Commission in order to use bi-products of cannabis grow facilities to do the same. That's right, clothes made from the plants some of us love to use medicinally.
Hemp is being used to make more durable concrete, body armor as strong as Kevlar, bio-plastics, and even bio-fuel. It is one of the most versatile plants to ever grow on Earth, and arguably could be one of the most beneficial plants to Earths health. Building the infrastructure is nearly essential, and it starts here.
Currently, our main fabric blend is 45% Hemp and 55% Recycled Polyester, with some items being 55% Hemp and 45% Cotton. This blend provides a unique softness while staying durable. Polyester can get a bad wrap on the breathability scale, but when paired with Hemp it becomes a wonderful fabric. We are also firm believers of reusing any waste products that can be reused. So, hopefully in a few decades this recycled polyester fabric will be something new. We plan to test other Hemp blended fabrics like Hemp x Bamboo, and shortly after our Official Launch this will simply be another option, among other Hemp blended options.
Reusing what we have, and sustainably growing what we use next is our future.
